Victoza
Brand-name daily liraglutide for type 2 diabetes — the diabetes twin of Saxenda at lower doses.
Victoza preceded Saxenda: the same liraglutide molecule approved in 2010 for type 2 diabetes at up to 1.8 mg daily, where it built a long cardiovascular-safety record (the LEADER trial showed fewer major cardiac events in high-risk diabetics).
Its weight effects at diabetes doses are mild — a few kilograms — so Victoza features in weight conversations mostly by adjacency: a diabetic patient already injecting daily liraglutide who wants more weight impact is a textbook candidate for a doctor-supervised switch to weekly semaglutide or tirzepatide. Generic daily liraglutide has also made Victoza-style therapy the cheapest injectable entry point in the class.
