Saxenda
Brand-name daily liraglutide FDA-approved for weight management — an earlier-generation option with smaller averages.
Saxenda, approved in 2014, was the first modern GLP-1 weight brand: liraglutide 3 mg injected daily. For years it was the only prescription in its class, and a generation of obesity-medicine practice was built on it.
Against current options it reads as the modest elder — roughly 5–8% average loss in trials, a daily rather than weekly needle, and frequent dose titration. It persists for specific reasons: adolescent approval (ages 12+), some insurance formularies, availability of generic liraglutide, and patients who established stable results on it. For most new adult patients, weekly semaglutide or tirzepatide offers more result per injection.
